“Little Jack Horner,
Sat in the corner,
Eating his Christmas pie;
He put in his thumb,
And pulled out a plum,
And said, "What a good boy am I!"

A charming nursery rhyme, but in truth the “pie” was likely a metaphor for some type of attaché and “a plum” was the deed to a plum piece of real estate that Mr. Horner stole from the Catholic Church. Since the 18th century, when Little Jack Horner first appeared, the word ‘plum’ has been used to describe anything extremely desirable from a big pile of money to a beautiful woman. The origins of that definition remain unclear, but the allure of the plum goes back way farther then Jack. In Chinese philosophy the plum tree’s vibrant pale pink blossoms are a symbol of winter ending and a herald of spring. The fragrant plum blossoms “light the world from the bitterness and cold of winter” and show that happiness can bloom in even the darkest times.

Plums are the second most cultivated fruit in the world and are grown on every continent except Antarctica. No matter the climate or location, plum blossoms continue be a symbol of beauty thriving in adverse conditions and a plum harbinger of prosperity.
